Students also practiced the concepts mentioned below:
INTEGRATION WITH ICT – Geogebra / GSP software was introduced, with the help of which Vertically Opposite Angles and Parallel Lines Properties were explained. Students enjoyed working on this software and created their shapes to find unknown angles. The students revised the concepts using different tools like MS Forms and Quizzes. COMPARING QUANTITIES: A prior knowledge check of the topics Ratio, Percentage and their relation was done using some examples from our daily routine. Students shared various examples where the use of Ratio and Percentage can be easily noticed – E.g. marks, voting poll, survey etc. Students also practiced the concepts mentioned below:
SDG 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns Students were asked to collect data on daily water consumption or electricity use at home. They shared the ways to reduce consumption, set targets and monitor progress. After a week’s research, they were able to find out the percentage change in the use of consumption of water and electricity by following several ways of consumption reduction. SCIENCEChemistry: Taking the topic of ‘Soil’ further, the students learnt about the different properties of different types of soil through a hands-on activity. They collected samples of different types of soils-sandy soil, clayey soil and loamy soil and observed their properties like color, texture, water-absorbing capacity. To understand the properties of soil they dissolved the soil in hot water and cold water and observed that more bubbles were formed in cold water as compared to hot water. They inferred that soil dissolved in cold water contains more air bubbles as compared to the one that were dissolved in hot water. From this activity, they concluded that ‘soil contains air’. They further enhanced their knowledge about soil properties by understanding the percolation and absorption of water through the soil using sand, clay and muddy soil. The topic percolation rate was discussed with the help of a software ‘whiteboard fi’ where they brainstormed to calculate the percolation rate of water and percentage of water absorbed by the soil. Further, the topic soil erosion was discussed with the help of an informative video. The knowledge and understanding of the students regarding soil pollution was assessed based on the Pecha Kucha presentation made by them in groups of four to represent their ideas on prevention of soil pollution where they will linked their ideas with SDG-1 [Zero hunger]. The topic ‘Weather and Climate’ was introduced with the help of an inquiry question ‘how does weather affect our daily lives’. Further, the topic weather was explained to them with the help of interactive slideshow, ‘What is weather’. https://www.liveworksheets.com/worksheets/en/Science/Soil/Types_of_soil_ ct1540119pp https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_HYyVCyt9k https://lsintspl3.wgbh.org/en-us/lesson/what-is-weather/1 https://whiteboard.fi/ https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KqrXOcQuHdLiCywreEfye1cV6nRG3IKUC- 4VzdKH0M4/edit?usp=sharing Physics: Taking the topic of ‘Heat and Its effects’ further, the students learnt about the radiation phenomenon by connecting with real examples like why we wear light colored clothes during summers and dark colored clothes during winter, the bottom of cooking utensils are painted black, etc. They were assessed on the same by a live interactive worksheet. Further, the construction, working and application of thermal image cameras was explained to them with the help of video tutorials. They also designed a brochure [Art integration] on the thermal image camera. The whole chapter was recapitulated through concept map by using Auto draw application [Artificial Intelligence Integration]. The next topic ‘Simple Pendulum’ was introduced to them through simulations. They measured the time period, observed number of oscillations and the effect of increasing / decreasing the length of pendulum on the time period through virtual mode-simulations. https://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulations/pendulum-lab https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsfkPTnWuhQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zhs1DwQB85c https://smprobotics.com/security_robot/thermal-security-robot/ Biology: Nutrition in Animals Students continued their learning about the process of nutrition in unicellular organisms with the help of a video of nutrition in an Amoeba. Thereafter, they compared and identified the stages of nutrition and discussed how they remain the same in both unicellular and multicellular organisms. They were thrilled to learn about ruminants and the process of digestion. They enjoyed exploring an interactive website on the same for the extended understanding of the Compound Stomach (a combination of 4 stomachs). Fibre to Fabric: The topic- Fibre to Fabrics began with familiarising students with the types of fabric. They were shown different fabric pieces. The students could identify some of them. Later, they built upon their learning, by differentiating the Natural and Synthetic fibres. https://www.sciencelearn.org.nz/image_maps/104-ruminant-digestion S.STHistory The Mughal Empire The journey of learning continued with the introduction of riddles based on Akbar and Birbal which was thoroughly enjoyed by the students. Akbar’s religious policies like Ibadatkhana, Din- i- Illahi and Sulh-i-Kul etc. were explained well with the help of Class Notebook and students compared the same with the Indian policy of Secularism. In addition, Map Reading Activity was done to compare the regional expansion of Babur, Akbar and Aurangzeb. In sync with SDG-5 (Gender Inequality), the status of two powerful women of medieval India- Raziya Sultan and Noor Jahan was compared in detail. The chikankari and kalamkari embroideries introduced by Noor Jahan were integrated with Art and the students explored the facts related to these designs. The students acquired the knowledge of miniature paintings, art, architecture, culture and literature of this period with the help of pictures shared in the chatbox. The central and provincial administration of the Mughal Dynasty was explained with the Creative Mind Maps made by children using bubbl.us. The chapter was concluded with a live quiz on Quizizz.com followed by a brainstorming worksheet.
