MATHSDATA HANDLING: The lesson began by checking the students' previous knowledge of collecting information through a discussion via examples from day-to-day life which is called DATA. The students gave various examples where they collected information and then used tally marks and frequency to organise that information. Explanation of Probability was done with games using dice, flash cards, coins etc. The students also enjoyed understanding of the following concepts using the given data: • Arithmetic Mean • Range • Mode • Median • Use of bar graphs with a different purpose • Drawing a single and double bar graph • Chance and Probability (Dice, Coin, Coloured blocks) The Practice exercises from the textbook and worksheets were done which strengthened the conceptual knowledge of the learners. Revision of UT 1 was done. Subject Integration - Interdisciplinary Activity (With Social Science) - The students chose the best five monuments of India of their choice and found out their heights. With the help of the information they drew a bar graph and found their central tendencies. ENGLISH“Work while you work, relax while you relax, a balance of both bestows good health!” After a rejuvenating summer break, students were welcomed in the classroom. Tasks assigned during the summer break were discussed and reviewed. Literature Students learnt and practised how to summarise a poem through discussion of the theme and attempted writing a summary themselves. Later, they were provided a sample summary for analysis. The skill of summarising a poem was utilised for the poem ‘A Song from the Suds’. The students interpreted the poem themselves by taking turns under the guidance of the educator. The stories ‘Idgah’ and ‘Mowgli, the Wolf Child’ were thoroughly enjoyed by the students. The learners travelled back in time to the eras in which the stories were based. The stories roused the curiosity of the students about the sociological conditions of time and the discussions were followed by many WHYs. The students drafted a character sketch of Mowgli with the help of a character map. Consolidated written practice for all the literature units was done in English notebook. As a part of the subject-integration week, students enthusiastically composed a rap song/ poem on any of the character from the supplementary reader 'Oliver Twist'. Some students performed their songs/ poem in front of the class. S.stGeography- Chapter 12- Inside our Earth The fascinating journey of evolution of earth was shared with the learners with the help of flow chart and interesting videos. The students were thrilled to learn about the different layers of Earth and to co-relate them with the structure of an apple for better understanding. Tectonic plate theory was explained in order to give clarity about the geological changes responsible for the the present day landforms. The different types of rocks were explained to the students who could then identify and list the types of rocks used in their houses. Rock Cycle was explained with the help of a diagram. In continuation with Social studies and performing art Integration, the class was divided into three groups representing different rocks. Each group had to present the story of formation of rock with the help of a skit/poem /rap. The students collaborated and came up with brilliant ideas and enthusiastically presented their work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lyCYXXIHT0 History-Chapter 3-The Delhi Sultanate The time line of the Delhi Sultanate was made by the students to understand the long rule of Delhi Sultan. The lesson was explained with the help of a PPT and mind map. The extent of each empire was shown on the map. SDG-1 of Gender Equality was explained with the case study of Razia Sultan. The Market control strategies of Allauddin Khilji were explained by comparing them with modern day market policies. Famous monuments built by the Delhi Sultan were shown and features of Islamic architecture were discussed. ScienceBIOLOGY Nutrition In Plants The chapter was revised thoroughly with the help of quiz and worksheets for their UT 1 Assessment. The students performed the Starch Test with Iodine in Biology Lab to confirm that iodine turns starch into blue-black colour. Students also watched the Leaf peel slide under the microscope to identify the stomata which helps in the process of photosynthesis and transpiration. Both the activities greatly enhanced the conceptual knowledge of the students about the topic. Nutrition In Animals As the students had already studied about digestive system organs and its basic functions, there was a Share Think Pair Activity for recollecting all the prior knowledge about the topic. This activity helped the students to think individually about the topic and share their ideas with classmates. The topic was further elaborated by the educator explaining each step of digestion along with detailed function of each organ involved in the system. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiuVy3X6JKI The process of feeding and digestion in single celled organisms i.e. the amoeba, paramecium and hydra was explained through diagrams and flowcharts. On the basis of learning, the students were able to answer the HOTS Questions related to the topic like- Does an amoeba follow all the five steps of nutrition? Students learned about the digestion in ruminants which is quite different compared to other animals. Class Discussion was held on the following questions- 1. Why is ruminant stomach different? 2. How is digestion different in ruminants? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPGoVQW7J8U A detailed Flow Chart of the chapter was made with the active participation of the students. CHEMISTRY The learners were introduced to the new lesson, ‘Soil.’ They participated in many fun experiments throughout the lesson. They were given different types of soils for their scientific investigation. The learners took a closer look into the soil samples to observe their texture and compare them. Visual learning through video tutorials on formation of soil was done and the concept explained. Further, they explored the composition of soil by observing different layers of it by allowing the water-soil mixture to settle for a few minutes. All students enjoyed and understood the concept of soil horizons. They also learnt about the different properties of different types of soil through a hands-on activity. They were given samples of different types of soils-sandy soil, clayey soil and loamy soil and observed their properties like color, texture, water-absorbing capacity. To understand the properties of soil they dissolved the soil in hot water and cold water and observed that more bubbles were formed in cold water as compared to hot water. They inferred that soil dissolved in cold water contains more air bubbles as compared to the one that was dissolved in hot water. From this activity, the students concluded that ‘soil contains air’. They further enhanced their knowledge about soil properties by understanding the percolation and absorption of water through the soil using sand, clay and muddy soil.
