Students gave various examples where they collected information and then used tally marks and frequency to organise the gathered information. The Practice exercises from the textbook and worksheets were done which strengthened their conceptual knowledge. SCIENCE Physics Grade VII learners took their learning of heat and temperature a step further to understand the least count, the role of kink and the need for measuring temperature using a thermometer via video tutorials. A video on the construction and working of the thermometer was shown to them followed by a general class discussion where they shared the usage of thermometer and learnt how to measure their body temperature. They understood the conversion of degree Celsius to Fahrenheit scale through a whiteboard activity leading to an assessment in a shared writing task. They also learnt about the conduction process – how heat is transferred and their application in our daily life by connecting them with real-life situations such as why is the handle of cooking pan/pressure cookers are made up of wood/rubber, the use of false ceiling in a room, use of gunny bags to store ice and double wall of refrigerators. They carried out hands-on experiment to find out the reaction of Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda) with vinegar and learnt to identify and confirm the evolution of Carbon Dioxide gas by passing the evolved gas through lime water. They also understood different types of chemical reactions through videos and shared their understanding through Think, Pair and Share strategy in class. Post this, the students collaborated in pairs, to classify the given reaction into different types. A hands-on activity was also designed for them where they crystallised the sugar solution and made large crystals of sugar. They also decolourized the rusted nail by dipping in Harpic Solution and saw the displacement of reaction happening in the solution. Biology Nutrition in Plants As the students have always been learning that the plants are autotrophs i.e. they make their food, they took this learning to the next level by understanding that there are some types of plants that are unable to process their food and use different modes to obtain food like saprophytes, parasites, and symbionts. To enhance their research skills, the students were given some probing questions and video links related to a topic after every class. The students shared their knowledge during class discussions making the learning process more engaging, interactive, and fruitful. The Mind Map of the Sultanate Period helped the students learn about different dynasties and their iconic features more precisely. Map Reading helped children understand the extent of Alauddin Khalji and Muhammad bin Tughlaq’s empires and about their different campaigns. A Comparative Chart based on the economic policies of Alauddin Khalji and Muhammad bin Tughlaq was drawn by them (Integration with Mathematics) and they were able to analyse the phrase ‘Actions speak louder than words in the light of Muhammad Bin Tughlaq’s experimental projects. The formative assessment was done with the help of a video where children participated in the rapid-fire session. The chapter was concluded with a brainstorming worksheet on monuments to hone their research skills. Besides this, a project-based chapter- New Kings and Kingdoms – was introduced where the class was divided into different teams. Students were facilitated by the educator which resulted in understanding of concepts like the Tripartite Struggle, aspects of Chola and the socio-economic set-up during the medieval period. This task helped them to collaborate and learn how to apply content beyond facts. Students also understood rocks as the natural mineral mass that makes the earth crust. They learnt about the physical properties and chemical composition of minerals, different types of rocks based on the texture, colour and size and were able to differentiate between the two. With the help of another video, students were made to understand some more properties of rocks such as some unique combination of chemical composition, mineralogy, grain size, texture, or other distinguishing characteristics etc. They also shared few examples of the uses of rocks and minerals in their day to day lives. To understand the role of government regarding fostering equality, an interactive discussion was held in the class. Students were asked to bring information about government schemes advocating gender equality, caste equality and how can the SDG- 5 of Reducing Inequalities be achieved. Students presented their knowledge about various schemes like Beti Bachao and Beti Padhao, Kanya Dhan Yojna etc. and discussed their contribution to the society. Democracy in Action: To uphold the principles of democracy, authority is needed. Information was shared related to such authority- the Election Commission of India. Various images were shown to explain the democratic process. A comparative analysis between General Elections and Student Council Election was done by students to understand the concept in an easier way. Interesting information about the First General Election, Ramon Magsaysay award winner, Election commissioner, T N Sheshan and the only company making the Election Ink in the world was shared to create interest among the young learners. A time-bound interesting quiz was conducted on Nearpod to assess their learning. The remaining part of the lesson will be carried forward in July. ICT The students learnt advanced features of Excel Software. They revised the previous month topics and integration with Math was done for better understanding of Excel. Students solved the integers worksheet in Excel. They understood the importance of Charts by doing research work on a Newspaper Article containing Charts & Graphs. They also learnt different possibilities available in Excel to make any task easy e.g. goal seek, grouping worksheet & consolidating worksheet. ENGLISH The core value of the month – “I Am One” was reinforced through the introductory lessons of English wherein the students expressed their views through different mediums (Padlet Wall /Chatbox/Verbally). The previous knowledge of students about the topic – Articles was gauged via several probing questions and sentences wherein they identified the articles and commented upon their specific application. They further studied them in-depth, the rules, classification supported with sufficient practice in the Grammar Practice Book. Besides this, the application of the same was emphasized during the daily conversation. “Do not judge others if you cannot stand others judging you.” The students enjoyed the above theme while reading the hilarious short story by Saki -The Seven Cream Jugs. The students were encouraged to write a story based on or related to a case of mistaken identity on their own. They also improved their Comprehension & Writing Skills by attempting the question answers in the notebooks. The students attempted to sketch the “Jug” in their art lessons. They also explored another text on the same lines -The Magic Bonbons enabling the students to appreciate wit, humour and a comedy of errors . To improve their ability to ‘Apply and Transfer’ (Bloom’s Taxonomy), the students recalled their basic knowledge about writing formal letters. The same was shared in the chatbox wherein an opportunity for peer learning was created. They referred to the PPT, read along, clarified doubts and attempted practice questions in their notebook. They were further taught more topics: Vocabulary of unit 2, Recap of articles, Contracted articles, Prepositions of place, Expressions of avoir & être. All topics were delivered with supportive study materials like word documents, PPT, relevant worksheets and engaging interactions. SPANISH The month started with brainstorming the Spanish adjectives. A word document was prepared with the participation of all the student in the class. After recalling adjectives, the topic “Comparisons” was introduced with the Spanish formula for the same. The students took turns to improvise new singular and plural comparative sentences. After reading some examples from the book, the class understood the formation of a superlative sentence in Spanish. The achieved knowledge was reflected through innovative sentences. The topic Demonstrative Pronouns was delivered in class and consolidated through an activity wherein the students had to choose different objects from their room and introduce them to the class using the appropriate demonstrative pronoun. GERMAN After completion of the first chapter, the students started the next chapter of Module-1, i.e. Meine Schulsachen, in which they learnt about the school, things, subjects, various adjectives. They completed the chapter by writing an E-mail to a friend about their school. All the workbook exercises were covered in detail along with the reading comprehension. Gute Ferien!!! PHYSICAL EDUCATION The students worked on: Warm-up exercises: On the spot jogging, jumping and running Flexibility exercises: Standing Hamstring Stretch (Bending forward), Piriformis Stretch (Hip Rotation ), Lunge With Spinal Twist (Alternative toe-touch), Butterfly Stretch (Thigh muscle Stretch), Side Bend Stretch (Waist Stretch), Lunging Hip Flexor Stretch (Hip and calf stretch). Strength exercises: Lunges, Push-ups, Banana pose, Single leg toe-touch, Bodyweight squats YOGA : Surya namaskar and Gomukhasana: Steps to perform the poses and advantages of the pose. INDIAN DANCE The students learnt about the Lord of Dance- Natraja through Shiv Vandana and an open discussion about the story behind it. Through Asamyukta hasta mudras (single hand gestures) used in Shiv Vandana, students learnt about the hand gestures which describe Lord Shiva such as Trishula, Sarpashirsh, Katka, Chandrakala. After that, they performed a beautiful song titled- ‘Jai Jai Kedara’. Students also performed various warm-up exercises and attempted tongue twisters to enhance their drama skills. Application of their learning : Students performed a role-play ‘Mumma and Son/ Daughter at the Hospital’ (the scene with three characters) through which they understood dialogue delivery, expressions, variations, improvisations and the importance of coordination. Additionally, they learnt to recite a poem dramatically and made posters related to mood and expressions. They also prepared a PowerPoint Presentation on Indian Theatre and World Theatre. Effective listening and speaking are the parts of communication that must be mastered. Good speaking skills build words that can be understood by the listener. This month students understood benefits of developing effective listening and speaking skills. The lessons also included developing skills such as effective study habits. Avoiding procrastination, importance of planning and scheduling things and improving concentration were discussed in depth. Students understood ‘How to study’, and ‘What to study’.
