Students learnt the definition of above mentioned 5 Ws and applied their knowledge to write a story in class. The 5 Ws: In investigative writing and research, the five Ws are used to gather information about a story or subject matter. In fact, most writers don't consider a story to be complete unless all five of the Ws have been addressed. The five Ws are who, what, when, where, and why. These questions words allow students, writers, and researchers to understand the full scope of the topic being discussed and enable critical thinking. Many of these words can be used in interrogation to tease out the information. Students also did a role play ‘The Good Night Princess’ written by D. M. Larson in a Class Activity. Through this performance, students understood stage management, how to use props, how to arrange cast and how to double cast and coordinate, etc. Role Play- When it comes to theatre, role playing is a fundamental skill that allows actors to be successful in their roles. Role play allows an actor to step into the shoes of a character. This may sound easy, but it isn't necessarily a natural process. It's a skill that requires a lot of practice before an actor can do it comfortably and well. They learnt the true meaning of these words, “Watch your thoughts, they become your words. Watch your words, they become your actions. Watch your actions, they become your habits. Watch your habits, they become your character. Watch your character, it becomes your Destiny!” This led to the understanding of mapping experiences with the thoughts, de-coding the thoughts, logically assessing our own thoughts and how to overcome negative thoughts.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvzfnm9uk-0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aj1GAQDCPiY Optimistic October has been a month of hopes and new achievements. With the arrival of this month, we have been able to commence the classes on a hybrid model. The exciting stepping in of our zealous students on campus witnessed them beaming with excitement and happiness. The core value of the month ‘I Am Peace’ was discussed well during the QCT lessons in which students could understand the concept and its importance by watching videos on the theme. The students shared their views about peace within and everywhere. The festive season of Dussehra and Diwali has been enjoyed in the special assemblies and several cultural performances by our talented Suncitizens. The significance of the festivals was conveyed well. The students commenced their morning assemblies every day with beautiful thoughts and enriching words. They enjoyed reading the NIE and sharing numerous facts and regular updates about vaccination. Integration, being a part of the school pedagogy, the zealous learners participated well in the Maths- Science and ICT Integration Week and were exposed to various new digital tools. MathematicsTRIANGLES & ITS PROPERTIES: A prior knowledge of ‘Types of Triangles, Sides and Vertices’ was discussed with the help of Geogebra Software. Students understood the concept of Median and Altitudes and the difference between the two. Students also practised the following concepts:
INTEGRATION WITH ICT – Students used the GeoGebra Tool to derive the angle sum property of a triangle and exterior angle property. Students enjoyed working on this software and created their shapes to find unknown angles. INTEGRATION WITH ART – Students took a cut-out of a triangle on an A4 size sheet and had marked all three angles. Then they cut all the corners of a triangle to investigate that sum of all the angles forms a straight line. The practice exercises from the textbook and worksheets were done which strengthened their conceptual knowledge. CONGRUENCE OF TRIANGLES: A prior knowledge of Congruence of Plane figures was checked with the help of day to day examples. Students gave various examples where they see Congruency – like corners of smart boards, folding of a paper, notebook, chocolates of same brand etc Students also practiced the following concepts:
SUBJECT ENRICHMENT ACTIVITY – Students took a cut-out of a triangle from a coloured sheet and investigated SSS and SAS criteria for congruency by overlapping it on another cut-out of a triangle. The practice exercises from the textbook and worksheets were done which strengthened their conceptual knowledge. SciencePhysics: The topic ‘Electricity and its Effects’ was introduced with an inquiry session. Students were given probing questions about electricity and the types of charges that are responsible for the production of electricity. They learnt about the sub-particles of atoms, electrons, protons and neutrons and understood that the flow of electrons across the conductor constitutes an electric current. Taking further the journey of electricity, they learnt the symbols of electric devices and the construction of an electric circuit through a simulation. They also constructed an electric circuit using wires, a small bulb and a battery/cell. As a home task, the students were given a list of items where they had to replace the switch with the items listed and note their observations. They shared the same in the class and deduced the type of things that let electricity pass through them and the ones which don’t. They consolidated their learning about insulators and conductors. Links: https://phet.colorado.edu/sims/html/circuit-construction-kit-dc/latest/circuit-construction-kit-dc_en.html Chemistry: Young minds learn by exploring, observing and experimenting during their science lesson on Acids, Bases and Salts. They carried out the identification test for detecting the nature of substances like vinegar, soap, toothpaste, chalk solution, the salt solution to check their acidic, basic or neutral nature using turmeric solution and blue and red litmus paper as an indicator. They recorded their observations in the observation sheet. Test Solution Effect on turmeric solution Inference (Acidic/Basic/neutral] Lemon juice, Vinegar, Common salt solution, Sugar solution, Detergent, Shampoo/soap solution, Eno solution, Aerated drink, Toothpaste solution. They also explored different types of acids based on the origin and concentration through video tutorials and ‘Think, Pair and Share Model’ where the videos related to different types of acids were shown. Then, they collaborated in pairs to understand the classification of acids into different types. Turmeric Indicator Art Integration Activity was also designed for them in which they made Turmeric Paper by spreading turmeric solution on a drawing sheet. They presented creative patterns of flowers and shapes using a detergent solution. They concluded that yellow turmeric paper turns red when patterns are drawn with detergent solution. SDG-3 Good Health and Well-being were synced with the activity by listing out the harmful effects of acids on the health of the person through a hand-made poster presentation. Links: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uHZ4Fwjx7o https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWUGhGIyKG4 Biology: Respiration in Organisms The chapter commenced with the students sharing their previous knowledge about respiration and the respiratory system. They differentiated between breathing and respiration as two different phenomena which are dependent on each other. The students learnt that respiration is a cellular process that can happen both in the presence and absence of oxygen. They discovered that when they jump on a spot for a long time their calf muscles start paining due to the accumulation of lactic acid prepared during the respiration in absence of oxygen. They made a model of the respiratory system using plastic bottles, balloons and straws to understand the inhalation and exhalation process. They also understood the process of breathing with the help of diagrams and videos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kacMYexDgHg ICTThere is a well-known saying that learning is not the product of teaching, learning is the product of the activity of learners. Following the same, the students learnt the basics of Python. They understood the importance of ‘Algorithm & Flowchart’ in a programming language. They learnt several commands and features of Python language like Print, Type, Variables, Operators, Comments etc. Students completed simple Python programs, which enhanced their logical thinking. S.stHistory ‘People without the knowledge of their past, origin and culture are like a tree with no roots.’ The learning was initiated by commemorating the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi through a virtual tour of the Eternal Gandhi Museum, New Delhi. The students acquainted themselves with his indomitable spirit of Nationalism and historic life events. Taking learning further to an experiential mode, students were introduced to the types of towns existing in Medieval India. With help of the Picture Reading method, students explained the characteristics of the temple town, administrative town and port town. Consolidated written work was also done in the notebook for types of towns along with their features and examples by using a graphic organiser template. The students were taken through another virtual tour to witness the beauty and rich heritage of Hampi which has been included in UNESCO Heritage sites. With the help of sharing pictures on the Class Notebook, students were acquainted with Kalamkari Design famous in Masulipatanam. A discussion on how to keep rivers clean near pilgrimage towns was held in the class where students participated enthusiastically and suggested measures while keeping SDG-6 Clean Water and Sanitation in mind. The topic was concluded with a Map Reading Activity where students categorized some cities in different types of towns and marked the same on the political map of India.
