MathematicsChapter- Comparing Quantities The chapter was commenced with an activity, "Result Day". The students were asked to find the percentage of their Half Yearly Result. Requistive knowledge of various definitions were asked as an oral test and some of the definitions were explained again to clear their misconcepts. The students were directly guided to solve NCERT Text book questions and all the NCERT qeustions were explained in the class. Increase or decrease as Per cent, Cost Price, Selling Price, Profit and loss as a percentage and simple interest were expalined in the class through real life examples. EnglishSocial StudiesHISTORY- Town ,Traders and Craftsperson The topic was intoduced with an activity. The students were given a list of cities and they had to categorize the cities based on their famous features. Connection to medieval times was established to understand the different types of towns existing in 6th century onwards and their evolution. Importance of trade, European settlements and colonization in India were discussed in detail. With the help of map, the students understood the importance of trade towns and India's strong position during medieval times with respect to trade with south-pacific and gulf countries. Integration of SDG-6 Clean water and sanitation in the town of Hampi was explained with a virtual tour the city with the help of Google map. https://youtu.be/AkbUreDBW9E GEOGRAPHY Human settlement, transport and communication The topic was introduced by asking questions to the students about the types of houses and the localities they live in. They were asked to list out the differences and then different types of settlements were explained with the help of a diagram. The students made a flow chart in their notebooks for a better understanding. Types of transport and their importance in the evolution of human life were discussed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nX7ZKwAuKxU Understanding Media In today's time where media is so much into our lives, the topic created a natural interest among the students. Print and electronic media were discussed and the students were encouraged to list out the advantages and disadvantages of both in our lives. The students gave real life examples where they accepeted the influence of news report on their thought processes. Impact of cinema was discussed by citing examples of movies based on historical incidences, social issues, sports, etc. An interesting activity was done by the students where they designed an original product and made an advertisement for it, along with a poster and a jingle and enacted the whole advertisement in the class. It was a visual treat to see the innovative ideas like a flying chappal to Ohio scents, sarees, juices and so many more... SciencePHYSICS- Chapter: Electric current and its effects "Everything is theoretically impossible until it is done" Based on prior knowledge, the students discussed basic terminologies related to electricity. The students were taken to physics lab and shown all basic component (devices) used in an electric circuit like: battery, cell, wire, bulb, joint wire, galvanometer, resistance box, switch etc. In continuation, the students were trained to construct an electric circuit using its components. Based on their experiment, they were able to differentiate between open and closed switch and open and closed circuit based on the function of switch. In addition, using a lab activity (material used: wire, battery, salt water, distilled water, pencil, metal scale, plastic scale, key, thread etc.) the learners understood the difference between a conductor and an insulator. They were able to list various conductors and insulators. The discussion on use of various appliances like electric iron, oven, heater and geyser, etc. led to understand the heating effect of electric current. In addition, the students understood the working phenomenon of these devices and also understood the structure and working of an electric bulb. The students were concerned about the safety of devices due to several effects of current so they discussed about the function of fuse and MCB. Guest Entry: School electrician was invited to show school electric rooms and MCB boxes and explain about the short circuit and overloading. CHEMISTRY- Chapter: Acids, Bases and Salts Young minds learn by exploring, observing and experimenting. During their lesson on Acids, Bases and Salts, the students carried out the identification test for detecting the nature of substances like vinegar, soap, toothpaste, chalk solution, salt solution, etc. whether they are acidic, basic or neutral using turmeric solution and blue and red litmus paper as an indicator. They also explored different types of acids based on the origin and concentration through video tutorials and Think, pair and share model where the videos related to different types of acids were shown. Then, they collaborate in pairs to conclude how they can classify the given acid into different types. They were also connected with SDG-3 Good Health and Well being by listing out the harmful effects of acids on the health of the person through a hand-made poster presentation. Following the same the students of Grade VII learnt basics of Python. They understood the importance of an algorithm and flowchart in programming. They learnt several commands and features of Python language like Print, Type, Variables, Operators, Comments, etc. The learners were able to do complete simple Python programs which enhanced their logical thinking.
